The Mindset You Need to Make 2011 Phenomenal
Before I agree to guide a client towards building and insanely profitable business, I ask them to tell me what they like and don’t like about their marketing and business in general. We discuss what is and isn’t working for them, what they most want to change and why. This is how I know they are ready to move to the next level and play it big.
However when we arrive at the place where they are prepared to take risks and opportunity x lands in their lap, strange things often happen. While they find x exciting, they also tend to become overwhelmed, uncomfortable and even shrink back – letting fear take over rather than embracing it. This is usually about the same time that I hear them utter: “I don’t have that kind of money to spend on x.” “X sounds great, but I’m not ready for it yet.” Or “x is too huge for little old me!” I’d rather start or stick with y or z.”
Granted we all crawl before we walk; graduate from grade one to grade two, grade three to grade four and so forth. We are first undergraduates, then masters, doctorates and post-doctorate at University. And we repeat the identical pattern in the work world, passing from assistants to managers.
The problem is this way of thinking stays with us for life and stumps our growth.
Those of us who muster up the nerve to start a business don’t realize that when it comes to accumulating huge profits, this ladder-type thinking will defeat you. It may feel safer, but in the end, it will get you nowhere.
So if you truly want to make 2011 phenomenal, you need to leap. Leap over previous boundaries, your competition, limiting beliefs and what ever else you’re allowing to stand in your way. Big gains come from leaping and taking risks, not climbing the ladder, towing the line or playing it safe. However you may need to adjust your attitude and thinking in order to throw caution to the wind and break out of this stifling mold.
Need help thinking bigger? Start by reading the autobiographies and biographies of big-thinking entrepreneurs such as Sir Richard Branson, Oprah Winfrey, Madonna, and Bill Gates. In his book, Losing My Virginity, Rich is very candid about how he started Virgin Airlines. He actually sold seats without having a plane. No wonder he started in the British version of the TV Show, “The Apprentice!”
When these folks come across big opportunities that were in line with their mission, they didn’t shy away. Rather they jumped in all the way — even when the resources they needed to do so weren’t yet available.
That’s right, even when they weren’t sure how they’d do it, where they’d get the money or who could help them, they went for it. And they found – as will you too — that when a big opportunity presents itself and you step up and say “yes”, provided you truly believe in your heart and soul that this goal is yours, suddenly the universe rearranges itself and rescues you.
And here’s more good news… You typically don’t have to go looking for these opportunities. They are usually right in front of you, or will soon present themselves. Once you declare you are ready, your awareness is heightened and your vision is clear, a shift occurs. And you suddenly see the path to all that you and your business can be.
So make the call, mail the letter, place the ad, invest in training, hire that person, and make that big move. The universe and all your rewards are waiting!
To your success,
P.S…Oh and please leave a message below. Tell me how many opportunities you’ve avoided and how you adjusted your mindset? And what was the result?? And if you find this post helpful, please be sure to tweet it!
